About

Northern perspectives on horses and riding

Gersemi is an independent equestrian publication focused on horses, riding, and the equestrian life as it is lived in northern Europe and beyond. The name comes from Old Norse, where it means something precious — a gem or treasure — and that is precisely how we think about horses.

The publication was founded to fill a gap in equestrian writing: thoughtful, long-form coverage that treats riders as knowledgeable adults rather than consumers to be sold to. You will find breed guides built on research rather than romance, gear reviews that acknowledge what does not work as readily as what does, and writing that takes the complexity of the horse-human relationship seriously.

What we cover

The two main areas of coverage are Horses and Gear.

In Horses, the focus is on breeds, behaviour, training philosophy, and the practical realities of keeping horses well. Nordic and northern breeds feature prominently — the Icelandic, the Nordlands Pony, the Gotland Russ — but coverage extends to any breed with a story worth telling carefully.

In Gear, the approach is honest and functional. Tack, riding clothing, helmets, saddles, and everyday equestrian kit are reviewed with attention to build quality, fit, and long-term value rather than brand prestige.
